PIPERTON, Tenn. — The congregation of Kirk Baptist Church is reeling after the tragic loss of their beloved senior pastor, Dr. Bobby Mullins, and his wife of 44 years, Wanda Mullins, who both died in a devastating car accident late this week. The couple was returning home from Wanda’s shift at Baptist DeSoto Hospital when their vehicle was struck, causing it to roll multiple times. Dr. Mullins was killed instantly, and Wanda passed away shortly after the crash.
The heartbreaking news was shared by their son, Brandon Mullins, who said the family is holding tightly to their faith during this unimaginable time. The church also posted the announcement to their social media, writing:
“Kirk Baptist Church family, we want to share with you all that both our pastor, Bobby Mullins, and his wife, Wanda Mullins, have entered Heaven’s gates. We will provide celebration of life plans once available. Please continue to pray for the Mullins family (Brandon, Mallory, and Melody).”
For over four decades, the Mullins faithfully served churches across Tennessee, touching lives in Memphis, Milan, Lenoir City, Oak Ridge, Knoxville, and most recently, Piperton. Dr. Mullins was known for his passionate preaching and unwavering dedication to shepherding others in faith. Wanda, a quiet force behind the scenes, ministered through music and heartfelt service, often from the piano bench.
“They were great parents and instilled the faith in us. That’s carrying us right now,” said Brandon. Daughter Mallory McNabb added, “Even though there’s such heartbreak, that Christ is still being glorified through all this is just incredible.”
Their children—Brandon, Mallory, and Melody—find comfort in knowing their parents entered eternity together. “As horrific as this has been, we are so thankful God saw fit to take them both,” said Melody Amason. “We just cannot imagine them living without the other.”
In a joint statement, the Mullins children shared:
“We are shattered and shocked but have complete peace. We know where our dad is, as he most faithfully preached about the hope of Jesus Christ and Eternity week in and week out. But more importantly, he lived that hope out every day to his family.”
