Winnipeg authorities are sharing more information regarding the fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of Tanner Barry Keeper, 26, on Main Street, a location one year ago.
Emergency services were dispatched to Queen Elizabeth Way and Mayfair Avenue, which are situated across the river from The Forks, around 3:30 a.m. on August 8, 2024.
According to police information, Mr. Keeper was initially walking across Main Street, a section that is also recognized as Queen Elizabeth Way. He then experienced a fall.
As he attempted to get back up, he was struck from behind by a vehicle traveling southbound. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition but unfortunately passed away there.
A grainy photograph of a dark-colored car, believed to be the vehicle involved in the collision, has been released by the Winnipeg police.
Police officially identified the deceased in a recent news release as Tanner Barry Keeper, the 26-year-old male.
Furthermore, investigators have gathered video footage from the scene and are of the opinion that the car involved was a dark-colored Buick LeSabre from the early 2000s.
Winnipeg police indicated that they are releasing these updated details to advance their investigation and offer some solace to the family of Mr. Keeper.
The police statement from Friday emphasized their hope that any information from members of the public could assist in identifying the car or the driver responsible for the collision.
