The world lost a remarkable soul on August 25, 2025, as Deborah Ann (Vardell) Pry, affectionately known as Debbie, peacefully entered her heavenly home at the age of 73 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Born on May 28, 1952, in Kennett, Missouri, Debbie lived a life filled with love, perseverance, and extraordinary achievements that inspired everyone who knew her.
From her early years, Debbie exhibited exceptional talent and ambition. She graduated from Kennett High School in 1970, where she left an indelible mark as a student-athlete. Competing in the NCAA Junior Olympics, she proudly brought home medals and ribbons that reflected her passion and determination. Her leadership and grace shone through as a baton twirler and drum major for the marching band, and she proudly represented her school as both Junior and Senior Maid on the Homecoming Court.
A Love Story That Stood the Test of Time
Debbie’s heart belonged to James D. Pry, her devoted husband, whom she married on December 29, 1973. Their marriage was a true testament to unwavering love and support, spanning over five decades of shared dreams and cherished memories. Together, they built a beautiful family blessed with two sons: James D. Pry II, of Holly Springs, and Chad A. (Metta) Pry, of Apex, North Carolina. Debbie’s joy multiplied with the arrival of her beloved grandchildren, Adela June and Eliot Atticus, who became the lights of her life.
Her educational journey was equally inspiring, as she pursued studies at Arkansas State University, Northwest State University, and Wayne Community College, always valuing knowledge and personal growth.
A Legacy of Love and Resilience
Debbie’s presence was a gift—her laughter, kindness, and unwavering strength touched countless lives. She was not only a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother but also a friend to many. Her departure leaves an irreplaceable void, yet her spirit will live on in every life she touched.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, George Nile and Betty Jo (Meadows) Vardell, and her brother, George “Randy” Vardell. While her earthly journey has ended, her story will forever be etched in the hearts of those who loved her.
