Youness Kraouch, a 17-year-old incoming senior at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, New Hampshire, tragically drowned while swimming with family at Hampton Beach. Originally from Morocco, Youness and his family moved to the United States last year, full of dreams and determination. He quickly made a mark at Pinkerton Academy, beloved for his intelligence, his thoughtful debates, his passion for soccer, and his deep connection to his cultural heritage. A Father’s Brave Attempt, A Son Lost to the Currents
The moments of that evening remain a painful memory: Youness was swimming with his father when he was suddenly pulled away by a strong ocean current. In a desperate bid to save him, his father rushed into the water and also got caught in the unforgiving current. Lifeguards and first responders, though off duty, were promptly called back and managed to pull both father and son from the surf. They began life-saving efforts immediately, and Youness was rushed to Exeter Hospital, but sadly he did not survive. His father, though shaken, was treated and remains in stable condition.
