A Sudden and Heartbreaking Loss
It is with shattered hearts that we share the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved sister, Amy Renee Sorrells, on July 30th. The news has been almost impossible to put into words, and it has taken us time to even begin sharing publicly because of the overwhelming grief our family has been enduring. Just the night before Amy’s passing, our father was admitted to the ICU, leaving us reeling from both fear and sorrow at once.
Amy’s loss has left an indescribable emptiness in our lives. She was not just a sister — she was a daughter, a mother, a friend, and a light that shone so brightly in every room she entered. Her laughter, her kindness, and her love will never be forgotten. Our lives will never be the same without her, and the ache in our hearts is something we will carry always.
A Life of Love and Selflessness
In May, Amy made a courageous and selfless decision to move from California to Atlanta so she could help care for our father. This act of love gave us something we will forever cherish — precious time with her that we may not have otherwise had. Those months became a priceless gift, filled with memories that we will hold close for the rest of our lives.
Amy’s compassion extended far beyond her family. She was a constant source of encouragement and comfort to her friends, always ready with a word of hope or a listening ear. Even in her own struggles, she found ways to bring joy and strength to others. Her life reflected love, generosity, and grace in ways that touched everyone who knew her.
Though Amy dealt with asthma and had to rely on her inhalers more frequently, none of us could have anticipated that this condition might contribute to such a devastating loss. It is a reminder of how fragile life is and how important it is to hold close the ones we love.
Holding Onto Faith and Memories
As we walk through this season of grief, we take comfort in our faith and in the promises of Scripture. Psalm 34:18 tells us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted & saves those who are crushed in spirit.” And John 3:16 reminds us that, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one & only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” These words remind us that Amy is now in the arms of the Lord, free from pain and embraced by everlasting love.
We are deeply grateful for the prayers, visits, and words of support from so many of you. Your love has been a source of strength for our family during this unimaginable time. To those who have memories, photos, or stories of Amy, we ask that you share them on her tribute wall. These remembrances will be a gift not only to her family but also to her teenage child, who will carry her memory forward.
