A Life of Service, Love, and Lasting Impact
On August 29, 2025, the Washington, PA, community said goodbye to one of its most devoted members, Tim Hammett. Born December 28, 1948, in Washington, Tim’s life was a testament to strength, loyalty, and unwavering love for those he cherished. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family — a fitting reflection of the life he led, where love and family were always at the center.
Tim’s journey was filled with honor and service. As a young man, he proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany, where his dedication and camaraderie shaped the way he approached the rest of his life. Returning home, he built a career defined by hard work and reliability, working at Robison Pipe Cleaning, Brockway Glass, and later retiring from Columbia Gas Transmission. Through every role he held, he left behind a mark of diligence and quiet pride.
But beyond his service and career, Tim’s greatest devotion was always to his family. He married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Roger, on September 5, 1970 — a union built on laughter, memories, and shared dreams until her passing. In the years that followed, Tim found love and joy again with his fiancé, Lana Montgomery, with whom he shared 25 beautiful years of companionship, adventures, and deep affection. Together, they built a life rich in memories and meaning.
Tim was a proud father and grandfather, finding his truest happiness in his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer (Terry) Negley and daughter-in-law Brandy Hammett. His grandchildren — Ryeleigh, Mason (his “little buddy”), Caleb, Thorn, Seth, and Sydknee — and great-grandson, Arden, brought him endless pride and joy. His love for them was boundless; he worked tirelessly to provide for them and created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and safety.
A Community Leader, A Gentle Spirit, A Legacy That Lives On
Tim’s heart extended far beyond his home. He found peace in the outdoors, from hunting and fishing to the simple pleasures of flea markets and motorcycle rides. But perhaps most notably, he was a man who lived in service of others. As a life member of the American Legion Post 927 in Claysville, former President of the American Legion Riders Post 639, and member of multiple community and veteran organizations including the VFW, Moose Lodge, Claysville Sportsman Club, Sinnemahoning Sportsman Association, the National Rifle Association, and Friendship Community Church — Tim’s presence could be felt everywhere.
His warmth, quiet leadership, and sense of loyalty earned him respect across generations. He never sought recognition, yet he became a pillar for those who knew him — a friend, a mentor, a steady hand in times of uncertainty. His passing leaves a void, but his spirit lives on in every handshake offered to a veteran, every story told, and every moment spent with family.
Tim is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Hammett; his beloved wife, Barbara Ann; and his son, Jason Hammett. Their memories live on, bound together with his in the hearts of all who loved them.
