Devastation on I‑15: Tragedy Claims Four Lives, Including Two Young Athletes
Saturday night’s fiery crash on Interstate 15 in Temecula has devastated families and communities alike. Among the four lives lost were Yostena Sabet, 22, and Mina Sabet, 14—both from Downey—and 13-year-old Jacob Labib of La Palma, all traveling in a black BMW M4 driven recklessly by a 25-year-old from Moreno Valley. The car veered across the median, plowing into a Nissan Sentra driven by Nicholas Callans, 36, from Wildomar. The crash occurred just north of Winchester Road. Molina’s request for prayers and justice echoes the helplessness felt by everyone who heard the news.
The BMW erupted in devastating flames, leaving no time for rescue for three rear-seat passengers. First responders moved swiftly, and a former NFL player, alongside a civilian, managed to drag the injured driver from the wreckage. Though still alive, the driver faces severe consequences—both physical and legal. His passengers, however, had no such chance to survive. Nicholas Callans was rushed to the hospital but tragically passed away before arriving.
Remembering Mina & Jacob: Young Soccer Stars Lost Too Soon
Mina and Jacob were more than accident victims—they were beloved soccer players for the SoCal Reds Football Club, known for their “joy, passion, and love for the game.” Both were valued teammates on the Boys 2011 EA team, eager, hopeful, and full of potential. Their sudden passing has stunned not only their team but the entire youth soccer community. As Lynn Perez, Head of Soccer Operations, said, “We are hoping to continue the lasting legacy of Jacob and Mina… ensuring their lives are honored in meaningful ways.” A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for their families.
Four Lives Lost, One Community Grieving
Beyond Mina and Jacob, we remember Yostena Sabet—a vibrant young woman with her whole life ahead of her—and Nicholas Callans, whose life ended as he drove home through Temecula. The ripples of their loss are being felt across counties, where grief transcends borders.
As investigators piece together what went wrong, there is unity in grief. Communities are calling for safer driving practices and vigilance on the roads. Tonight, parents hug their children a little tighter, neighbors look out for one another a little more, and strangers offer prayers for healing.
