A Life Rooted in Faith, Family, and Service
James Franklin “Jim” Goins, 71, of Sherrills Ford, NC, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Born in Mount Airy, NC, on October 23, 1953, Jim was the beloved son of the late Rev. Charlie and Arlein Goins. His life was a beacon of service—to his country, his family, and his community. From his honorable years in the United States Air Force to his impactful work as a Government Liaison Officer at Letterkenny Army Depot and Redstone Arsenal, Jim led by quiet, steadfast example.
Jim was a man of faith who lived with purpose. Whether stationed in Texas, Missouri, or Germany, he brought strength and humility to his service. After leaving the military, he continued his mission to serve by pouring himself into both government and community work. In every role, he gave more than he took, always seeking to uplift those around him.
Hands That Built, A Heart That Gave
To know Jim was to witness a man in motion—always helping, always building. A gifted craftsman, he was happiest with a toolbelt on and sawdust on his boots. He remodeled homes, constructed props for church events, and volunteered endlessly—never for recognition, but out of a deep desire to serve and honor the Lord. His joy was found in the small moments: sipping coffee with devotionals on the front porch, cruising Lake Norman in his boat, or mowing the lawn on his beloved John Deere tractor.
Despite his tireless work, Jim never lost sight of life’s greatest blessings. He and his wife Lynn traveled the world together, creating memories that spanned oceans and seasons. He fulfilled a lifelong dream by owning a log cabin on the lake—his sanctuary of peace, reflection, and family gatherings. His adventurous spirit and unwavering faith were the cornerstones of a full, meaningful life.
Cherished Legacy of Love and Devotion
Above all, Jim was a devoted husband, loving father, doting grandfather, loyal brother, and selfless friend. He leaves behind a legacy of deep love and resilience. His survivors include his beloved wife of many years, Lynn Goins; his children, James Goins Jr. (Emily) of Columbus, GA, and Erin Farmer (Brad) of Concord, NC; and his grandchildren, Josiah, Norah, Haylee, Brody, and Rylee. He is also survived by his sisters: Therisa Dianne Bowman (Bobby), Sarah Houston (Jackie), and Rebecca Walsh (Tim), along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at The Cove Church in Mooresville, NC. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Atrium Health Lincoln Hospital and to hospice nurses and friends who stood by Jim in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to The Cove Church—an institution that reflects Jim’s lifelong dedication to faith, service, and compassion.
Jim Goins’ life was a shining example of grace in action. He will be missed deeply, remembered always, and honored eternally.
