Roy Hughes Jr., 17, a talented high school track star from Dallas, Texas, was tragically found unresponsive at his home on Friday, August 8th, just four days before he was set to begin his senior year. According to his mother, Hughes had attended morning practice, returned home, and taken a nap—but never woke up. Dallas Fire-Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene. The suddenness of his passing has left the Lincoln High School community reeling, struggling to come to terms with the loss of such a bright, promising young life.
A Star Both On and Off the Track
Hughes Jr. was no ordinary teenager. On the track, he had achieved remarkable success, winning the Texas 4A state championship in the 300-meter hurdles in 2025. Beyond athletics, he was equally dedicated to academics, maintaining an impressive 3.7 GPA.
